I lived further out than the others, so I had to go to a different secondary school. It was very hard because I literally lost all my friends. Going to secondary school was so horrible to have to do on my own. It was the most daunting thing I have ever done. I can remember my first day when I stood in that secondary school in that yard with everyone. I was looking at everyone and they all knew each other. There were groups and I was stood there on my own. I thought, God! What the hell do I do now?
I had to stick up for myself. I had to defend myself. But I am not confrontational. I think it’s because there was so much confrontation in the school and that was something I hated. There were quite a lot of fights and that was horrible. I suppose that is something that I have learned: it is not something I want to be like. I wouldn’t want to be like that. I think I have got more confidence. That confidence, I think, has come from a college course I did after school. I hated college for the first four weeks.
